First Nations Education Council<\/h2>\n

The First Nations Education Council (FNEC) is an organisation that is made up of eight First Nations of Quebec: Abenakis, Anishinabeg, Atikamekw, Wendat, Ilnuatsh, Wolastoqiyik, Mi\u2019gmaq, and Kanien’keh\u00e1:ka. Spread-out over a large territory, its 22-member communities, make up a total of 25 elementary and high schools, Kiuna College, which represents approximately 6 000 students who have their distinct language, culture, traditions and demographic and socioeconomic reality. In addition to their First Nation mother tongue, 12 of our member communities are French-speaking, and 10 are English-speaking.<\/p>\n

Mission<\/h2>\n

The First Nations Education Council (FNEC)\u00a0contributes to the complete\u00a0<\/span>control of education by its First Nations member communities and the exercise of their inherent jurisdiction. <\/span>\u200b<\/span>\u200b<\/span>The FNEC represents and defends the interests of this collective force <\/span>by\u00a0promoting the realities of each nation and\u00a0respecting their identity, culture\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0traditions. Excellence, student success,\u00a0cultural pride and control of\u00a0<\/span>education by and for First Nations are at the heart of our mission.<\/span>\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n
