This fall has turned out to be quite an emotional roller coaster ride with the second wave of COVID-19 putting several regions on red alert. We have all mourned the horrible and tragic death of Joyce Echaquan. Our thoughts are with her husband and children, as well as the community of Manawan and the entire Atikamekw nation. Discrimination and systemic racism are killers that now have a face. Quebecers have demonstrated their outrage. A new provincial minister of Indigenous affairs was appointed. Has the tide turned ?

News from the General Management Sector

We are enthusiastically welcoming the appointment of Valerie Gideon to the position of associate deputy minister of Indigenous Services Canada. Ms. Gideon is a member of the Mi’gmaq nation of Gesgapegiag with considerable operational experience and numerous achievements in the First Nations takeover of federal programs. She also has a profound understanding of First Nations and our realities.

KIUNA INSTITUTION

Did you know that the Kiuna Institution is the only college in Quebec to offer its second language courses in First Nations languages? Since August 2020, students can choose French or an Indigenous language for this general education course. Please note that all our courses and programs are now offered by distance learning. In addition, the registration period is still underway for the winter 2021 semester.
