DEPARTMENT

University Centre

The FNEC has started developing a business plan to create a university centre by and for First Peoples as part of our 2021-2026 strategic plan to increase access to post-secondary education. Our goal is to create an Indigenous higher learning space with significant elder involvement, appropriate student support, and cultural safety mechanisms.

The FNEC is heading project development and will soon be signing a partnership agreement on the education model and curriculum with Laval University, and other partners who will contribute to a cultural-based learning community. Five-year funding for this project will be provided by the Ministry of Higher Education.

Representatives from Indigenous Services Canada were also in attendance to discuss funding distribution through the regional agreement. The FNEC’s involvement on the AFNQL’s Regional Committee on First Nations Languages, Kiuna’s latest developments, and Cybersecurity Awareness Month were other items on the assembly agenda.

Complementary Services Conference

“All Engaged for Student Wellness!”

The FNEC is holding an educational conference February 20, 21 and 22 at Mont Gabriel Resort & Spa in Sainte-Adèle, Québec for administrators, support staff and parents working with K–12 students.

Participants will have the opportunity to share, learn, dream, and discuss their supporting practices, programs or projects that support the wellbeing of their children/students (elementary-secondary).  Many adults play an important role in supporting the wellness of a child during the school year.
This supportive network plays a critical role and creates the ideal conditions for teaching and learning to take place.

More information will be shared with member communities and
schools in the near future!
Stay tuned!
