Summer tour of the communities
One of the highlights of summer 2026 was the visits to the Gesgapegiag, Listuguj, Long Point-Winneway and Timiskaming First Nation communities. Our Director General was invited by the communities to participate in graduation celebrations and met with the educational advisor, the principals and the school teams.
The discussions that took place shed light on the progress made in taking charge of educational services, the priorities and challenges to meet, along with the engagement of the teams, the development of infrastructure and the common desire to build education systems adapted to the aspirations of youth and communities.

Assembly of First Nations Annual General Assembly
From July 14-16, a number of chiefs from FNEC member communities participated in the AFN Annual General Assembly in Ottawa. The event led to the passing of three important resolutions that will greatly contribute to the advancement of our education files:
- Resolution 03/2026 calls for the development of legal solutions to correct the underfunding of First Nations education.
- Resolution 07/2026 aims to support access for First Nations youth to an online education anchored in their culture in Northern and isolated communities.
- Resolution 08/2026 invites the federal government to invest in First Nations postsecondary education to strengthen the qualified labour force in Canada.

House of knowledge
The House of Knowledge conceptualization phase is coming to an end! The House of Knowledge team has withdrawn to its offices to draft the business plan, which will consolidate all the ideas developed in collaboration with the partners and members of the First Peoples consulted. Once the business plan is submitted at the beginning of 2027, the team will enter the project implementation phase.

Record number of graduates in the Foundation in Teaching in a First Nations Context
We are proud to celebrate the record number of graduates in the Foundations in Teaching in a First Nations Context. Twenty-nine students obtained their diploma, an outstanding accomplishment that demonstrates their engagement to education and their communities.
Graduates from the latest cohort:
- French program: 16 graduates
- 8 from Wemotaci
- 6 from Manawan
- 1 from Pikogan
- 1 from Kitcisakik
- English program: 13 graduates
- 8 from Listuguj
- 3 from Kahnawake
- 2 from Winneway

The Fall 2026 Semester Has Started
at Kiuna!
Out of a total of 155 students, we are welcoming nearly 50 new students across all programs for the new Fall 2026 semester at Kiuna. We are particularly pleased to see an increase in admissions to the Diploma of College Studies (DCS) in Special Care Counselling, as well as a growing number of young students joining us. In fact, our student apartments are nearly at full capacity.
Students from Pakua Shipi, Gespeg, Pikogan, Waswanipi, and even Ivujivik, the most distant community represented, are joining us in our classrooms. They are ready to learn, share their knowledge, and build their future. It is truly a joy for all of us to see such wonderful results.
We wish all our students an excellent semester filled with discovery, meaningful encounters, and success!

It’s official: the FNEC Inter-school Games will be back in 2027!
Participants will meet and compete from May 20 to 23, 2027, at Université Laval, in Quebec City.
